//RACE REPORT: ELMSTEAD WOODS
// Round Five of the South London Go League saw a home race at Elmstead Woods School.
The Boys Under Eights featured Elias taking off like a rocket and Kasper’s personal training session with a Pro last week clearly having an impression as he followed him as closely as he could, Vicente recovered well from a tricky start and looked every bit the racer in his new Limited Edition jersey and new bike. Edward was the first of many today to show true grit, putting a time trial crash behind him and getting back on to complete the group race, showing true heart… well done that man!
In the Girls we had drama ‘til the end with Victoria almost winning the sprint finish, ten more metres and she’d have had it! Lola brought up third, cursing her short forearms (or long gear levers maybe!)
At Under Ten level, Sofia had that same look on her face as she did when she won at Herne Hill. Powering away from the girls, before starting to reel in some of the boys too. The LEC Cross Team skills playing a big part as she gained time by pedalling through on the sections her competitors were running.
Finally, a baptism of fire for Alex in his first race since joining. Under 12, 14 and 16 racing together for an 18 (EIGHTEEN!) lap slog-fest on a course now getting squidgy. Floyd looked at the lapboard after his first lap, despite us advising against it! He then got himself into a rhythm and grew more and more confident as the race went on. Alex was finding it hard going but a double showing of heart and Coach Flic becoming a personal cheerleader got him thru all the way to the finish... outstanding effort!
Charlie raced amazingly on a tough course and was the only rider on a fixed gear bike! Being one of the most supported riders on the course Charlie raced hard all the way to the chequered flag.
Riley also raced very well, being an U12 rider taking on the 18 laps and on a mountain bike, Riley showed his grit and determination by overtaking most riders in front and finishing third overall out of the U12, 14 & 16 riders!
Rytis did his bit for all of those suffering, by storming round so quickly, no one but himself had to do the full 18 laps!!
All in all a great showing, everyone did the club proud today.
