// FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

JUNIORS

What’s the youngest a rider can be for a session?
We usually say four years old, but providing your young rider can ride then they will be able to join in with the session. We usually try to have three groups - the youngest working on the fundamentals of riding.

What bike do I need to attend a session?
Any kind of bike is fine - a road bike, mountain bike, single speed or with gears.

In the colder months it can get a bit muddy so bear that in mind with your tyre choice.

The most important thing is the bike is in a road-worthy condition, ideally running through a simple M-Check.

Err, a ‘simple M-Check’?
See below for details.

What else do I need to attend a session?
We ask that all riders arrive with suitable clothing for the weather conditions, helmets and gloves are mandatory and a drink is good idea (you can leave bottles with our coaches). A sunny disposition, keenness to learn and a certain joie-de-vivre are desirable though not essential.

Do you have to race?
Absolutely not. We do have a race squad which travels to events, but our sessions are all about learning how to ride, developing technical skills & having fun. We do usually throw in a few races at the end of the session, but just for fun.

Do parents stay for the session?
Not necessarily, although you’re welcome to. Providing your coach has your contact phone number then you’re free to head to the café, the shops, for a lie-down, or a ride of your own.

Is Coach Vi as good looking in real-life as they say?
Perhaps more-so.

I heard something about trial sessions?
That’s right, there’s no need to immediately commit to a lifetime in lycra.

Email our coaches to arrange a couple of trial sessions. juniorteam@limitededitioncycling.co.uk

Do you have a Code of Conduct?
We do, for riders and parents. You can find them in our Welfare section.

M CHECK

// Front Wheel: Ensure the wheel spins freely, with no buckles nor loose spokes. Tyres are inflated with no splits or cracks.

// Hub: Check that quick release are tight, no BMX pegs attached.

// Brakes: Check that front (right) and back (left) works, that pads or discs are not worn nor rubbing, no loose cables, nor split ends.

// Forks, Headset & Handle-bars: Check the forks are not bent any more than they are supposed to be. Check there is no wobble on the headset when the brakes are held. Ensure handlebars are straight and secure with bar ends attached (this is more important than you might think) and that grips are indeed grippy with brake and gear levers tight.

// Frame: No visible damage to the frame. Should you have fancy suspension, ensure there isn’t too much travel and that nothing is moving from side to side.

// Pedals, Cranks & Bracket: Cranks should move together, not independently, and pedals should spin freely.

// Saddle & Seatpost: We don’t want any movement of the seatpost or the saddle. Check the release is tight and the saddle is at hip height.

// Rear Wheel: Ensure the wheel spins freely, with no buckles nor loose spokes. Tyres are inflated with no splits or cracks.

// Chain & Gears: We like silver chains (orange is not the new black). It should be tight without slack with gears working and no split ends on the cables.
